Our Reading Right now our reading mission is to buddy read a chapter book. As students read, they have a mission page to fill out. The mission includes: making connections, wondering, predicting, retelling, answering and asking questions, and reading fluently. Ask your child to tell you about the chapter book they are reading!
Writing We are working on persuasive writing. We read a book called, I Need My Monster. In the story Ethan has a monster named Gabe that lives under his bed. Gabe decides to go fishing. Throughout the night Ethan has substitute monsters but none are scary enough. Each child is making a substitute monster. The class will then write letters persuading Ethan they they have the perfect substitute monster. Ask your child to tell you about the monster he/she is making.
Math We continue to practice regrouping and ungrouping numbers. We are also working on graphing. The children will learn to read and make picture, bar, and circle graphs. They will also survey classmates and use the data to create graphs on the computer.
Science and Social Studies We continue to work on simple machines. Recently, we had a special delivery, caterpillars! Life cycles will be our next focus! The kids will research an animal and make a poster about the animal's life cycle and habitat.
